ELV – Operating Legally and Safely

22 May 2013 | Legislation

New laws and increasing site inspections across the UK mean it’s more important to operate your ELVĀ site safely and legally than ever before.

In July 2010 it became illegal for any individual to deal with refrigerant gases in vehilces without an accredited qualification. This is due to the ozone-depleting properties of the gas and the harm it can cause to skin.

With the removal of air conditioning gas from end of life vehicles (ELVs) being a legal requirement, every licenced ATF should hold this certificate to ensure full compliance.

Recently there has been an increase in inspection from the Environment Agency. This is part of the Government’s scheme to improve the levels of recycling and decrease harmful waste to meet EU regulations.

AutoDrain now offers IMI-accredited training on refrigerant gases to allow all ATFs to keep up to date with new laws. Our AutoDrain experts are happy to give any advice on legal compliance and the ELV vehicle depollution process.
